Assemblymember Jessica Caloza serves as Assistant Majority Whip and Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Asia/California Trade and Investment. Sworn into office in December 2024, she proudly represents California’s 52nd Assembly District, which is home to East Los Angeles, Northeast Los Angeles, and South Glendale.
A proud immigrant and lifelong public servant, Jessica has dedicated her career to fighting for everyday working class people and families. Throughout her service at the federal, state, and local levels, Jessica has worked to expand economic opportunity, strengthen access to quality public education, protect working families, and deliver results for communities across California.
She served in President Barack Obama’s Administration working on education policy, securing critical resources for underfunded schools and expanding opportunities for students. She later served in senior leadership positions for the City of Los Angeles, where she helped expand services for working families, immigrants, women, seniors, and children.
In 2019, Jessica was appointed to the Los Angeles Board of Public Works, where she oversaw billions of dollars in infrastructure investments, expanded access to good-paying union jobs, advanced pay equity initiatives, and strengthened transparency and accountability in city government. She later served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, where she worked to combat crime and gun violence, support survivors of sexual assault, protect consumers, and advance efforts for environmental justice.
In the Legislature, Jessica has championed efforts to lower the cost of living, expand affordable housing, support small businesses, strengthen public education, protect reproductive freedom, prevent gun violence, and defend the rights of immigrants and workers. As the Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Asia/California Trade and Investment, she is focused on strengthening California’s global economic partnerships, promoting international trade and investment, supporting innovation, and creating pathways for economic growth and job creation.
A proud product of public schools, Jessica graduated from University of California, San Diego. She is the first Filipina elected to the California State Legislature and lives in Northeast Los Angeles with her family.
