“I am deeply concerned by the crude oil spill and road closures in East Los Angeles near Cesar Chavez Avenue and Eastern Avenue reported this morning. My office is closely monitoring the situation and has reached out to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. They are actively deploying a team on-site.
We recognize the fear, disruption, and uncertainty this incident is causing throughout the community, and we are grateful to the first responders and public agencies working urgently to protect public safety and contain the spill. The potential environmental and public health impacts of this incident must be treated with the utmost urgency—especially in communities that have too often borne the burden of environmental hazards and pollution. We appreciate the swift coordination underway by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, hazardous materials teams, public works personnel, and local and state agencies responding on the ground.
As cleanup efforts continue, clear communication, accountability, and strong coordination between agencies will be critical. My office will remain in close contact with response partners and is ready to help connect constituents with local resources and support services.”
